About the Role
The Bell Captain oversees the operations of the Bell Staff, including assisting guests with arrivals and departures, luggage handling, and delivering requested items. This role supervises and assists with check-in/check-out processes, ensures attentive guest service, and coordinates Bell Staff activities. This is a seasonal position for November 2026 through April 2027.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a warm, friendly, and service-oriented demeanor at all times.
- Communicate effectively—verbally and in writing—with employees and guests.
- Multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
- Attend all required hotel meetings and trainings.
- Maintain regular attendance and high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and safety regulations.
- Identify and assist in resolving operational problems.
- Understand and apply complex information from various sources.
- Cross-train in other hotel-related areas as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and show initiative in anticipating needs.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
- Complete administrative duties such as transport logs and shift checklists daily.
- Greet guests, open doors, and assist with luggage handling.
- Escort guests to rooms and familiarize them with hotel services and amenities.
- Inspect guest rooms to ensure supplies and orderliness.
- Explain room features (e.g., TV, telephone, in-room movies) and hotel layout.
- Provide information on local attractions, directions, and transportation.
- Hire, train, coach, and counsel Bell Staff with guidance from the Guest Services Manager.
- Maintain cleanliness of the lobby, public spaces, and motor entrance.
- Control traffic and ensure valet parking procedures are followed.
- Coordinate the hotel’s van service operations.
- Maintain listings of local attractions, events, and transportation guides.
- Know emergency procedures and assist as needed.
- Deliver flowers, packages, and guest laundry/dry cleaning.
- Manage shoe shine service (if applicable).
- Know daily VIP arrivals and communicate them to Bell Staff.
- Cross-train in all Guest Services areas to assist when needed.
- Show guestrooms and suites, emphasizing hotel amenities.
