Responsibilities
- Guide Guests through a wine experience that exceeds their expectations, driving sales and providing excellent service and wine knowledge.
- Pair wine and food for Guests as requested or as helpful.
- Communicate with all Guests, crewmembers, managers, and vendors in a courteous and professional manner throughout the dining experience.
- Maintain the physical inventory and evolve the wine list.
- Drive sales at all times, considering the taste preferences and budget parameters of the Guest, using suggestive selling techniques.
- Build Open Table Guest notes database to enhance future service and sales.
- Manage the evening's inventory of wine, restocking as needed.
- Ring in and track orders, ensuring quick service to Guests.
- Maintain neat and organized conditions of all wine storage areas.
- Ensure the restaurant wine glassware and decanters are at par, available, and clean.
- Attend to Guests who are not 100% satisfied with the product or service immediately, and inform a manager if necessary.
- Participate in ongoing Crew wine education and maintain an enthusiastic attitude towards the wine program.
- Complete side work duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 21 years of age
- High school graduate, some college
- Level 1 Court of Masters, WSET level 2, or equivalent
- Current CA Food Handler’s Card
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English with Guests, management, and co-workers
- Ability to add Guest notes to Open Table database
- Ability to open all wine/champagne bottles with ease, regardless of the difficulty of corks, openers, size of bottle, etc.
- Complete knowledge of proper glassware to use and decanting technique
- Understanding of state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons, and drunk driving
