About the role
The Wine Associate is responsible for being a role model for team members in charming and captivating Vino Volo customers through sophisticated customer service and wine expertise at the tasting bar, in the tasting lounge, or in the retail section of the store. You will create and deliver first-class experiences for the traveling public by impressing customers with the Vino Volo experience. The primary goals are to:
- Impress customers with the quality of the Vino Volo experience.
- Sell flights, glasses, food pairings, and retail bottles of wine to customers.

Responsibilities
- Embody a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
- Embrace and uphold Vino Volo’s core values: Be Extraordinary, Cultivate Community, Plant and Grow, and Share the Wine.
- Warmly greet and acknowledge guests promptly, presenting the menu, answering questions, and making suggestions regarding wine, food, and service.
- Engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner to create a lasting first and last impression.
- Demonstrate wine knowledge, including flavor profiles, talking points of the current list, and pricing guidelines.
- Assist with new employee training.
- Actively upsell guests on food, wine, and merchandise to enhance their experience.
- Total bills accurately and accept payment following established guidelines.
- Process all point-of-sale transactions efficiently while complying with cash handling and loss prevention procedures.
- Know all specials and back-bar offerings.
- Build guest loyalty and enhance selling skills through available training materials.
- Collaborate with fellow employees and management to ensure all guests have the best experience possible.
- Maintain a positive attitude and work well under pressure with cooks and other staff.
- Assume the role of a salesperson with a commitment to upsell, increase check average, compete in sales incentives, and promote the brand.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Support other areas of the bar as requested, such as seating customers, answering telephones, stocking, cleanup, and documentation.
- Respond appropriately to guest concerns.
- Complete side work duties, including sweeping and mopping.
- Follow opening and closing procedures.
- Support management decisions enthusiastically.
- Maintain current adult beverage certification and ensure responsible service of alcohol.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including those relating to food safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; two-year college degree is favored.
- One or more years of experience as a server in a well-respected full-service restaurant, wine bar, or equivalent position in the hospitality industry.
- Must be 21 years of age or older (able to taste and evaluate product).
- Must be able to pass the required TSA screening and background check.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Able to work overtime or late into the evening in the event of flight delays.
- Able to carry and balance a flight of wine.
- Able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
- Skilled at and enjoys delivering excellent customer service.
- Enthusiasm for wines and a desire to learn more about wines.
- Highly responsible and reliable.
- Experienced with and proficient in using retail point-of-sale systems.
