Window Service Technician I
About the role
The Overview Maintenance Technician I position is an entry-level customer-facing role within Builders FirstSource, the leading supplier of building materials, value-added components, and building services to the professional market. This position is responsible for servicing and maintaining window and sliding glass door products, reporting to the Service Department Manager.
Responsibilities
- Locates sources of problems by observing windows and sliding glass doors in operation; listens for problems; uses precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; uses hand and power tools; examines form and texture of parts.
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; uses rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipates needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct service/repairs, assist with warranty issues, and file warranty reports with vendors.
- Provide on-site assistance to help troubleshoot and repair products.
- Frequent/daily use of ladders and lifting 30+ pounds.
- Plan and coordinate activities concerned with investigating and resolving customer reports of problems.
- Review performance reports and documentation from customers and sales representatives and inspect malfunctioning or damaged products to determine nature and scope of problem.
- Analyze, review, and inspection findings to determine source of problem, and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
- Maintain high accuracy in performing service work on product per work order specifications.
- Provide a communication link between the customer and the Company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer.
- Backup other maintenance technicians as needed.
- Inform supervisor of any shortages in stock, or of any malfunctions or damage to equipment or vehicles.
- Restock incoming supplies, keep tools and machinery clean and maintained, and is responsible for all tools assigned to truck.
- Maintain truck by keeping it clean and organized.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- 1-2 years of industry experience preferred.
- Fluent in English, bilingual Spanish preferred.

- Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently required to sit.
- Regularly required to climb or balance and talk or hear.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
- Often exposed to high, precarious places and vibration.
