About the role
Join WinCo Foods, a growing family of over 140 supermarkets in 10 states with over 22,000 employee owners. As the second largest Employee-Owned company in the United States, WinCo is dedicated to offering the lowest possible prices to feed families. In this role, you will provide friendly and cooperative service to customers at retail locations operating 24/7, processing orders efficiently, accurately, safely, and courteously at check stands, self-checkout lanes, or the customer service desk. Generally, shifts are 6-8 hours long, scheduled between 5:00 AM and 1:00 AM.
Responsibilities
- Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere.
- Operate check stand equipment, including cash registers, scanners, and scales, to process customer orders using two aisles.
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
- Process monetary transactions, including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons, and refunds, while adhering to Cash Handling and Lane Accountability policies.
- Maintain knowledge of product locations, UPC codes, and proper pricing.
- Keep the check stand clean, neat, and properly stocked, ensuring a safe and secure work area.
- Stock, price, and rotate merchandise.
- May be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lanes or the customer service counter as needed.
- Follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted items (e.g., tobacco, alcohol).
- Adhere to USDA Food Stamp and WIC voucher procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Self-Checkout Attendant Responsibilities
- Move within the self-checkout area to expedite transactions and maintain safety.
- Initiate and engage with customers during transactions.
- Respond to alerts and errors at self-checkout stations to ensure accurate transactions.
- Monitor multiple transactions simultaneously in a fast-paced setting.
- Assist customers at self-checkout kiosks to ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage.
- Maintain awareness of the self-checkout area, anticipate customer needs, and observe transactions closely.
- Prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns per company policy.
Requirements
- Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Friendly, courteous, and tactful interactions with customers and co-workers.
- Effective communication skills (hearing and speech) for customer relations.
- Ability to complete written forms and conduct visual inspections of merchandise.
- Frequently lift and maneuver objects up to 20 lbs; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales.
- Stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn for long periods.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Manual dexterity and good hand/eye coordination.
- Learn and memorize PLU codes, product locations, check stand procedures, and company policies.
- Ensure accuracy in scanning, verifying sales, and handling monetary transactions with basic math skills.
- Occasionally use blades for box cutting.
- Use household cleaners to maintain the work area.
- Efficiently and accurately perform primary duties.
- Navigate high-stress situations, manage volatile customers, and handle high transaction volumes.
Additional Requirements
- Compliance with state and local laws, including food safety/handler cards and tobacco/alcohol sales certification (e.g., TAM card).
- For minors, hours and equipment operation may differ.
Pay
USD $17.38 - USD $23.30 per hour.
