Job Summary

Aid in store operations by performing clerk duties in designated departments (grocery or freight), leading by example, and assisting the department manager with general department operations as directed.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

• Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers.
• Maintain and encourage a friendly, enthusiastic customer service atmosphere.
• Perform duties of a grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker, as well as assist assigned employees in their tasks.
• Handle customer complaints and requests, approve checks, sell gift certificates, issue refunds, and answer customer questions.
• Monitor area activities, including customer traffic flow, checkout lane coverage, etc.
• Maintain cleanliness and appearance of work area, storage areas, equipment, and retail displays.
• Ensure the department/area of responsibility is clear of excess carts, baskets, garbage, etc.
• Notify employees of breaks and lunches, and monitor their arrivals, departures, and lunch times.
• Communicate regularly with immediate supervisor and assist as needed.
• Assist clerks by providing direction and leadership, demonstrating and performing clerk responsibilities and assigned tasks, and answering employee questions.
• Monitor cashier money handling procedures and assist with scan system procedures (e.g., UPC codes not on file, scan pricing errors).
• Stock and rotate merchandise in any area of the store as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Clear communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, customers, and others.
• Initiative and self-direction to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and ability to read reports, computer printouts, register and computer screens.
• Ability to consistently provide world-class customer service to internal and external customers.
• Variety of shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be at least 21 years old in Montana and Oregon, and 21 years old in other states.
• Food Handlers Certification (per state laws).
• Proper use of cleaning chemicals and handling of food products according to state and county laws and WinCo standards.
• Physical abilities to reach, lift, maneuver objects up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
• Understanding of state and federal regulations if certification is needed.
