Wildlife Research Biologist (Natural Resource Specialist 2)

About the Role

This is a full-time, limited-duration position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2028. Current, regular-status employees of the State of Oregon may also be considered for a job rotation into this role, with manager approval. Rotational candidates do not need to meet the minimum qualifications of the Natural Resource Specialist 2 level.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with biologists, GIS specialists, statisticians, and other project collaborators to gather, prepare, and analyze data related to bighorn sheep in the East Region.
• Acquire data through literature reviews and online searches, utilizing specialized knowledge of spatial data.
• Summarize and analyze data using geographic and statistical software such as ArcPRO, R, or equivalents.
• Interpret data analysis and write manuscripts suitable for publication.
• Present results at public and professional meetings.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Option 1: Two years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program, including one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports. AND a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework. OR three additional years of biological experience in a fish or wildlife program.
• Option 2: One year of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program, including at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports. AND a Master’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Master’s degree in biological/ecological sciences.
• Option 3: A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences.

Note: Applicants with a Master’s or Doctorate degree that included work experience (e.g., internships, thesis work) may list this experience separately for qualification credit.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $4,738 - $7,247 per month. The listed range is for non-PERS qualifying candidates; PERS-qualifying candidates will receive an additional 6.95%.
