About the Role
The Wildlife Biologist will lead biological surveys, monitoring, and provide guidance to project teams on small to large-scale projects, involved in all phases from approvals and pre-construction through to construction or abandonment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct, direct, and coordinate multi-disciplinary field surveys.
- Act as a technical lead to the project team.
- Cultivate a work environment committed to health, safety, and wellness.

- Lead various discipline surveys (e.g., wildlife and vegetation) for environmental assessment and compliance projects.
- Provide specialized advice on wildlife and vegetation considerations to the project team.
- Act as a resource to construction personnel, explaining wildlife regulations and their application in the field.
- Verify biologically sensitive areas are properly marked and flagged before work begins, and develop mitigation strategies as required.
- Lead field kickoff meetings.
- Inspect areas of concern and make appropriate recommendations to construction personnel.
- Review field reports for consistency and accuracy.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Formal leadership training preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience as a biologist or in a related role.
- Experience conducting environmental surveys.
- Professional experience on projects regulated under NEPA or state-equivalent (asset).
- Experience related to utilities construction (asset).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for data collection, interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, and client communications.
- Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, with strong problem-solving, prioritizing, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail, self-motivated, and highly organized.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Valid Driver’s License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier.
