Responsibilities
- Hiking on rigorous terrain to establish project perimeters, marking trees and locating access points.
- Using chainsaws, log chokers, chains, ropes and a variety of hand tools to conduct fuels management operations.
- Operating, transporting, maintaining and troubleshooting machinery including, but not limited to skid steer, woodchipper, trailers and Type 6 engine.
- Actively engaged in risk mitigation and prescribed fire project work.
- Hiking on rigorous terrain to scout fires, safety zones, escape routes, hazards and establish fire line locations.
- Using chainsaws, hand tools for establishing control lines.
- Driving, inspecting, maintaining and troubleshooting fire engines and other heavy equipment.
- Inspecting, using and maintaining water pumps for use in suppression.
- Performing firing and burnout operations under supervision.
- Participating within the incident management level commensurate with complexity.
- Works as a skilled member of a fuels management or engine crew executing fuels management, fire suppression, monitoring, and post-fire activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Required Ability to pass The Work Capacity Test (WCT-Pack Test) as a method for assessing an employee's fitness levels for fire qualifications.
- Arduous fitness (WCT-Pack Test) will consist of completing a three-mile hike, within 45 minutes, while carrying a 45-pound pack.
- Within 1 Year Of Hire National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (NWCG): FFT2 and FAL3
- FEMA coursework including ICS-100, IS-700
- First Aid/CPR/AED/TCCC
Qualifications
Preferred: FFT1, FAL2
Skills
- Ability to operate and maintain various hand and power tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of fuels management techniques and prescribed fire practices.
- Experience with fire suppression and monitoring procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Salary Ranges from $25.19 to $37.78 per hour
