About the role
This position is accountable for instructing student athletes in boys' volleyball, providing leadership, and helping each participant achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.
Administrative direction is provided by the Director of Sports, Principal, or other assigned administrator.
Requirements
- Certificate of Completion for Module 15 or 51 from the Connecticut Coaching Education Program
- Connecticut State Department of Education Coach permit or Temporary Coach permit
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificates
- High School diploma or GED
- Successful completion of pre-employment process
- Incumbents may be required to possess and retain a current Motor Vehicle operator's license

Responsibilities
- Assist players in the care and prevention of injuries
- Assist the Director of Sports with scheduling contests and transportation as needed
- Assume primary responsibility for court preparation
- Attend all practices, contests, city league meetings, clinics, camps, seminars, and coaches/rules interpretation meetings
- Coach individual participants in volleyball skills
- Collect all uniforms and equipment at the end of the season
- Maintain and collect permission slips and medical awareness forms from athletes
- Communicate with classroom teachers to support each player’s success
- Comply with Board policies and District procedures for the interscholastic athletics program
- Conduct oneself with tact and diplomacy
- Enforce discipline, sportsmanlike behavior, and eligibility requirements
- Ensure proper attire, practice organization, equipment care, and student safety
- Evaluate assistant coaches and the program, submitting written reports to the Director
- Follow all applicable State laws and CIAC regulations
- Instruct and supervise team managers in game and practice preparation
- Maintain necessary attendance forms, accident reports, and paperwork
- Manage behavior of student athletes during practices, competitions, and events
- Oversee the condition of the locker room and facility safety
- Participate in awards programs and distribute awards to players
- Plan and schedule practices in accordance with District policy
- Prepare written rules and regulations for team members prior to the season
- Promote good public relations through personal appearance, attitude, and conversation
- Provide a positive learning environment for athletes
- Provide the Director with end-of-year inventory, award information, and team rosters
- Recommend purchases of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
- Report all injuries to the Director and school nurse
- Respond to routine questions and requests appropriately
- Schedule fundraising activities as approved by the Principal
- Serve as a role model for students
- Submit physical forms and necessary paperwork to the school nurse prior to the season
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Work closely with the Director in scheduling interscholastic contests

Individuals must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual/auditory acuity to perform the duties of the assignment.
