Wifi Expert H/F
Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Principal Wi-Fi Expert to join our US R&D organization and act as the technical authority for WLAN technologies across our next‑generation fixed wireless gateways and CPE products.
Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Own and drive the Wi-Fi technology roadmap aligned with operator requirements and silicon vendor evolution.
- Act as technical lead and advisor during product definition with Tier 1 customers.
- Track and analyze chipset, modem, and module vendor roadmaps (Broadcom, Qualcomm, MediaTek, etc.).
- Evaluate and benchmark Wi-Fi chipsets, RF solutions, and software stacks.
- Influence architectural decisions across multiple product lines.
Architecture & System Design
- Provide technical leadership to firmware and software teams throughout the design cycle.
- Guide engineering teams on best practices for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Drive evolution of software platforms (RDK-B, prplOS, Linux-based stacks).
- Contribute to and promote open-source initiatives and ecosystems.
Performance, Debug & Optimization
- Define and execute test strategies and test plans to validate functionality, performance, and robustness.
- Investigate and solve complex issues together with other Sagemcom teams and chipset manufacturers.
- Analyze Software, 802.11 protocol, and OTA logs to identify root causes of: STA assoc/disassoc, instabilities, throughput degradation, steering, roaming, mesh, security, Wi-Fi7 MLO interoperability issues.
- Drive complex issue resolution with: internal engineering teams, chipset and module vendors, operators and certification labs.
Certification & Operator Readiness
- Lead and coordinate Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) certification strategy and execution.
- Interface with certification labs and regulatory bodies (FCC).
- Define mandatory and optional feature sets to certify.
- Pre-test for WFA Wi-Fi certification.
- Represent Sagemcom in: IEEE 802.11 working groups, Wi-Fi Alliance task groups.
- Support operator interoperability testing (IOT) with major carriers.
- Act as technical point of contact during operator acceptance and field trials.
Knowledge Sharing & Enablement
- Deliver technical trainings to Sagemcom engineering teams.
- Build and maintain a corporate Wi-Fi knowledge base (best practices, lessons learned, debug guides).
PROFILE
You hold a MS or PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering, or Wireless Communications from a recognized US or international university. 10+ years of industry experience in Wi-Fi sub-systems. Technical Expertise: In depth knowledge of IEEE 802.11ax (WiFi 6/6E) and 802.11be (WiFi 7) standards. Strong understanding of: MIMO / MU-MIMO, OFDMA, Beamforming, WPA2/WPA3, 802.1X, DFS, AFC, MLO, TWT, BSS Coloring, QoS, roaming mechanisms. Familiar with LAN network protocols: EAP, Radius, IPv4/v6, DHCP, ARP, ICMPv4/v6, IGMP, NAT, DNS, . Hands-on experience with wireless SoC platforms (Qualcomm IPQ/ATH, Broadcom, MediaTek). Programming skills in C/C++ for embedded systems, shell, python. Proficiency with WiFi-related linux tools: hostapd/wpa_supplicant iwconfig, wlctl, uci, … Mastery of debugging and performance measurement tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, iPerf, IxChariot, etc. Familiarity with WiFi test equipment: Veriwave, Candela, Octoscope, … Involvement in IEEE 802.11 or Wi-Fi Alliance working groups. Familiarity with WFA certifications and regulatory compliance (FCC).
