WIC Intake Specialist

About the role

Do you pride yourself on going the extra mile to deliver stellar customer service? As our WIC Intake Specialist, you will have the opportunity to be one of our clients’ first encounters. As a WIC Intake Specialist, you will be the first line of support to clients seeking Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services. In this role, you will become an expert in determining WIC program eligibility, conducting anthropometric and biochemical screenings, and educating clients on how to use their nutrition benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses WIC program eligibility based on federal regulations and guidelines (e.g., screening and documentation of family income, identification for participants and caregivers, family address, caregiver information level, foster status, and participant category)
  • Performs administrative duties such as answering phones, monitoring clinic emails, scheduling appointments, and performing client check-ins
  • Performs hemoglobin screening tests using invasive and non-invasive methods, depending on the participant's age, and performs anthropometric measurements (e.g., height, length, and weight) on women, infants, and children
  • Provides client-centered information on the specific nutrition benefits provided, vendor and Farmers' Market locations to utilize benefits, and instructions on how to use and redeem nutrition benefits
  • Informs clients of their rights and obligations for program participation, documents in client files in the Arizona WIC Health and Nutrition Delivery System (HANDS) computer system, and gathers caregiver written consent using the HANDS computer system and DocuSign
  • Participates in annual, ongoing program continuing education training activities based on County, State, and Federal regulations

Requirements

  • Bilingual skills in Spanish/English, reading, writing, and speaking at an advanced proficiency level
  • Two years of experience providing public services and interacting with the public
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Qualifications

  • Experience assessing client eligibility for public assistance programs
  • Experience with the WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program

Schedule

Work is performed indoors with accuracy and attention to detail while handling interruptions in an office setting within a team environment, interacting with a diverse population. May be assigned to work at various WIC sites. Ability to exert 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency.

Pay

This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek. This position may qualify for a $0.30 multilingual pay differential. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.
