About the role
The Wheel Vehicle Mechanic supports the USARCENT contract at Shaw AFB. This position serves as the Assistant Project Manager, taking on Project Manager duties when the PM is absent.
Responsibilities
- Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.
- Diagnoses the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs required.
- Replaces worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts.
- Grinds and adjusts valves; rebuilds carburetors; overhauls transmissions; and repairs fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- 5+ years of maintenance experience on Army equipment.
- Any ASC certifications are welcome.
- Experience with Caterpillar engines is a plus.
Qualifications
- Possesses a valid driver's license, certificates, and permits applicable for the type and class of vehicle being operated.
- Capable of performing basic mathematics.
- Effective communication skills with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Skills
- Physical capability to lift no less than 25 pounds and perform work in extreme temperatures, high humidity, and blowing sand and dust.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Periodic twisting, bending, and squatting.
Benefits
- Available onsite between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, except federal holidays or when the government facility is closed for administrative reasons.
