About the role

Washington Gas is seeking a Supervisor, Field Operations to lead daily field activities supporting the safe and reliable operation of our natural gas distribution system. This position plays a critical role in overseeing field crews, responding to emergencies, coordinating infrastructure maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.

Location: Springfield Station | Springfield, VA. Schedule: Monday-Friday, with candidates required to work either 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM or 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM, and be available to transition between shifts as needed. This position also participates in an on-call rotation, requiring availability to respond to emergency situations outside of regular working hours.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily work of assigned represented Washington Gas (WG) employees, as well as contractors involved in all aspects of the infrastructure maintenance processes.
  • Responsible for hiring, evaluating, training, performance management, compensating, motivating, coaching, and developing staff.
  • Ensure that all phases of Field Operations meet or exceed Corporate, business unit, regulatory and project objectives and use sound implementation of Company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that projects are completed within budgetary limitations.
  • Oversee the successful and safe operation, maintenance, tie-in of gas mains and/or emergency response for an assigned region of the WG pipeline system.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, state and local codes.
  • Lead the daily work activities and distribution of planned leak repair, and other pipeline infrastructure tasks among crews.
  • Coordinate immediate/emergency response activities.
  • Establish guidelines and practices to ensure that company facilities are maintained in accordance with applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must pass gas odor recognition testing
  • 5+ years of related work experience, preferably in the natural gas (or related) industry, appliance service, natural gas piping, HVAC, construction, or similar field.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to reconcile conflicting goals and priorities, lead projects to completion, and effectively supervise and develop employees.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of pipeline construction, replacement, operations, maintenance, emergency response procedures and practices, and applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
  • Proven knowledge of gas distribution, appliance diagnostic repair and service, field construction operations, heating and air conditioning systems, pipe work, electrical wiring and controls, venting and ventilation, and/or gas equipment operations.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, planning and scheduling skills, and the ability to logically analyze and solve business problems.
  • Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, to retrieve, research, share, and present business information.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and establish productive working relationships with business partners, supervisors, subordinates, and peers.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $103,500 to $150,750 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
