Wetland Delineator/Environmental Scientist

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and execution of wetland delineations and stream assessments.
• Serve as a wetland field team lead in accordance with the USACE 1987 Manual and Regional Supplements.
• Support other natural resource surveys as needed.
• Operate GPS units to collect field data, map habitat types, and identify sensitive resources.
• Prepare field equipment, mapping, Safe Work Plans, and logistics for fieldwork.
• Perform data entry, analysis, and report compilation.
• Coordinate with governmental agencies (USFWS, USACE, OEPA, ODNR, etc.).
• Lead and assist in preparing wetland delineation reports and permit applications for federal and state environmental permits, including USACE Section 404 and Section 10, state wetland and stream permits, and NPDES compliance.
• Fieldwork may require long hours (10-12 hours per day) and physically demanding conditions, including traversing varied topography while carrying equipment in all weather.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience conducting wetland delineations and stream assessments, preferably in Ohio and surrounding states.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or a related field.
• Familiarity with USACE wetland data forms, ORAM wetland data forms, and QHEI/HHEI stream data forms.
• Experience with GPS field data collection and plant identification of Midwest vegetation.
• Proficiency in data management, organization, and MS Office Suite.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work, often completed independently.
• Flexibility to adapt to fast-paced demands and willingness to work long hours in the field (two weeks or more per month during peak periods).
• Ability to work as a team lead or independently, with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
• Adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct, workplace safety policies, and client-specific health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a team lead for a wetland delineation crew.
• Proficiency with ArcOnline, ArcCollector, or other field data collection applications.
• Strong technical writing skills and ability to communicate clearly within multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of USACE Section 401/404 permitting, Section 10 permitting, and mitigation requirements.

Pay

Expected salary range: $78,000 – $92,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and geographic location.
