About the role
R&P is seeking an experienced Industrial Operations Manager to oversee shipboard and shop industrial work and personnel based in San Diego, CA. This role involves leading a team, managing projects, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and security policies.
Responsibilities
- Plan, estimate, schedule, staff, organize, direct, and control complex industrial operations jobs ensuring all customer and company requirements are fulfilled in an effective and timely manner with high quality.
- Manage, supervise, mentor, and train personnel on work being conducted on US Navy ships and in offices, shops, and warehouses.
- Work with Superintendents to prioritize work, determine required staffing levels and skills, and adjust staffing and training as required.
- Maintain employee training plans, training records, and certifications.
- Establish schedules and milestones and manage to those plans.
- Track, progress, and report on adherence to project plans and schedules identifying and resolving problems, issues, and roadblocks.
- Collaborate with QA, Superintendents, and Lead Technicians to generate and maintain Weekly and Monthly Reports, POA&Ms, and TIPs.
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality control, and security policies and procedures.
- Review plans, technical documentation, reports, records, and briefings prepared by technical and program staff for quality and completeness prior to submission.
- Manage, maintain, and control company resources, ensuring work teams have all the resources needed to perform their jobs.
- Ensure all calibrated equipment is tracked and calibrated on time.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are properly labeled, maintained, inventoried, issued, and properly tracked for accountability.
- Manage teams of industrial support personnel at multiple locations/ships ensuring all logistical needs are met.
- Lead project review sessions with customers to discuss cost, schedule, and performance.
- Develop and implement work standards, processes, and procedures to effect continuous improvement, increase quality and efficiency, and control costs.
- Review purchase requests for accuracy and validity prior to submission.
- Aid in developing proposals and quotes for future and follow-on work opportunities.
- Review requests for quote and proposals identifying technical requirements, risks, opportunities, and issues prior to contract acceptance.
- Work with property management/landlord to manage, maintain, and improve company facilities ensuring required permits and inspections stay within periodicity.
- Manage the warehousing, inventorying, maintenance, care, and protection of R&P and customer material and property.
- Promote R&P and ensure the company is well represented at every work site, in every yard, and on every ship.
- Communicate policies and organizational goals.
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years relevant experience working in the ship repair industry.
- Minimum 10 years prior experience in the private maritime industry.
- Leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills necessary to create and maintain healthy, thriving, dependable, and compliant work environments.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items and ABS standards.
- The ability to read, comprehend, and translate detailed and complicated customer work items, requirements, specifications, references, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in U.S. Navy ship design, production, test, operations, maintenance, and modernization is highly preferred.
- Experience in marine electrical systems installations, maintenance, and repair is preferred.
- Experience in defense aerospace materials/composites is preferred.
- Lear Six Sigma certification is preferred.
- Must be a Program or Project Manager with a minimum of 15 years relevant experience working in the ship repair industry.
- Must have a minimum of 10 years prior experience in the private maritime industry.
- Must have the leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills necessary to create and maintain healthy, thriving, dependable, and compliant work environments.
- Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Items and ABS standards.
- Must have the ability to read, comprehend, and translate detailed and complicated customer work items, requirements, specifications, references, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Must have knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures in U.S. Navy ship design, production, test, operations, maintenance, and modernization.
- Must have experience in marine electrical systems installations, maintenance, and repair.
- Must have experience in defense aerospace materials/composites.
- Must have Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
