Wellness Floor Staff - Mornings and Weekends

About the role

Part-time Wellness Floor Staff at the Ann Arbor YMCA oversee the Wellness Center, including cardiovascular equipment, selectorized equipment, and free weight areas. The role emphasizes member safety, education, and creating a welcoming atmosphere in alignment with YMCA policies and core values.

We are looking for staff members with availability during weekday mornings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Engage actively and positively with members, volunteers, and staff to demonstrate YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
• Demonstrate and explain proper equipment usage to members, adjusting machine settings to fit individual needs.
• Build authentic relationships with members, fostering connections and supporting their healthy living goals.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including responding to emergency situations.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings.

Requirements

• Currently certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED, or obtain certification within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to relate positively to Y members and demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Effective communication and listening skills, with a willingness to learn.
• Exposure to exercise science concepts, including functional anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, and injury prevention (ideal but not required).
• Understanding of the YMCA mission and cause.
• Multi-lingual ability is preferred.

Working Conditions

• Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods.
• Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to assist participants weighing up to 180 pounds.
• Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to maintain alertness for several hours and respond swiftly in emergencies.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations.

Pay

$14.28/hour
