About the role
Provide service to YMCA members in the fitness center and ensure the safety and risk management of the area and the members.
Responsibilities
- Carry out Wellness Center Orientations based on branch guidelines and offer assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous, and professional manner.
- Recognize members working out in the Fitness Center and acknowledge them.
- Ensure staff are identifiable by wearing a staff shirt and nametag.
- Be trained and knowledgeable about the Fitness Center operations, ensuring it is staffed 100% during operating hours and maintaining cleanliness of the facility and equipment.
- Report any mechanical or equipment breakdowns immediately to the fitness director and document in the maintenance logbook.
- Offer advice, spotting, and other assistance to members as needed.
- Encourage members to wipe down vinyl seating of strength and cardiovascular equipment and benches after use.
- Clean equipment as requested by the supervisor.
- Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year.
- Maintain continuous surveillance during shift.
- Encourage members to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
- Ensure compliance with all YMCA of Greater Brandywine policies and standard operating procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact with various personalities required.
- Knowledge and/or experience in basic exercise principles required.
- Obtain and maintain all additional new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
