Welding Technology Instructor

This is a 10-month professional, full-time tenure track position beginning August 14, 2026. Assignment may include day, evening, and weekend duties at all District sites.

Responsibilities

• Teaches a full schedule of welding and metal fabrication courses at various locations, including Valencia, Canyon Country, dual enrollment high schools, and satellite campuses.
• Provides instruction to students, assesses their progress toward course objectives, and maintains accurate records of their achievement.
• Oversees, promotes, and organizes outreach efforts for the Welding program while also ensuring student persistence and retention.
• Promotes student awareness of safety standards, delivers instruction aligned with industry recognized skills and competencies, and supports successful program completion.
• Oversees the implementation and compliance with the AWS SENSE (American Welding Society Schools Excelling through National School Standards Education) entry-level curriculum across all applicable welding courses.
• Promotes and maintains National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) curricula in all applicable welding courses.
• Secures essential industry credentials to enhance both current and emerging programs within the Welding Technology department.
• Ensures compliance with accreditation standards of regional and national accrediting agencies.
• Maintains compliance with established safety protocols and proper work procedures at all times.
• Demonstrates expertise in metal fabrication, with proficiency in operating a range of equipment including manual mills and lathes, pneumatic and hydraulic shears, tube benders, and CNC plasma cutters.
• Operates precision and conventional measuring tools and equipment with accuracy.
• Interprets basic-to-complex prints and drawings.
• Develops and revises appropriate credit and noncredit program and course curriculum in response to discipline and workforce needs.
• Maintains office hours and participates in department, division, and college committees and governance.
• Participates in and implements departmental and college program reviews.
• Provides feedback to the Welding department Business & Leadership Team (BLT).
• Participates in additional faculty responsibilities, including college decision-making activities related to professional and academic matters. The activities will occur within the department as well as in the larger College setting and at all district campuses.
• Engages in ongoing professional development and preparation related to best practices associated with pedagogy, andragogy, and all instructional (including virtual) teaching modalities to address anticipated student and instructional delivery needs.
• Participates in all course, program and institutional Student Learning Outcome (SLO) assessment processes.
• Participates in outreach efforts to attract new students into the program.
• Assists with scheduling, evaluation, and mentoring of adjunct faculty.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential in Welding Technology.
• OR Bachelor’s degree or higher plus two years of full-time equivalent professional experience in engineering, manufacturing/ industrial technology, or closely related field, or the equivalent.
• OR Associate degree plus six years of full-time equivalent of professional experience in engineering, manufacturing/ industrial technology or closely related field, or the equivalent.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess at least one of the following licenses or certifications:

Option 1

• Proof of current LADBS certification (must be maintained throughout the course of employment).
• Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Structural Steel Welder Certification – Manual process (SMAW).

Option 2

• Proof of current ASME Section IX (6G) certification (must be maintained throughout the course of employment).
• Must be certified to either or 2” and/or 6-inch carbon steel pipe: GTAW root, SMAW fill/cover.
