Welding Technician

Under the general supervision of the Welding Foreman, the Welding Technician welds all types of metals, designing, fabricating, and repairing equipment and fixtures.

Schedule

8 hours per day / 257 days per year

Pay

Lane 12: $26.80 per hour (2026 - 2027 Support Salary Table). Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase.

Responsibilities

• Weld all types of metals, including structural and plate steel
• Design, fabricate, and repair equipment and fixtures
• Apply layout and fit-up principles and practices
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings
• Work with a wide variety of metals (e.g., copper, aluminum, cast iron, and stainless metals)
• Use welding rods, fluxes, and related products
• Adhere to applicable codes, standards, and welding specifications
• Perform welding inspection and testing
• Install and weld natural gas lines using proper safety equipment
• Work with steel cable systems, winches, and related equipment
• Understand and apply material safety data sheets (MSDS)

Requirements

• Four years of experience related to welding tasks or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Welding certification
• Certification for welding natural gas lines and pressure vessels
• Passing of American Welding Society (AWS) standards tests using shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, flux cored arc, and gas tungsten arc welding, plus oxyfuel gas and air carbon arc cutting (preferred)

Qualifications

• Completion of 1-year college or technical school training program or equivalent education and/or experience (preferred)
• Completion of formal 4-year apprenticeship (preferred)
• Continuing education courses required after employment
• Vendor and new-product training required after employment
• Basic knowledge of metallurgy
• Knowledge of layout spaces and relationships
