Welding Instructor - LBJ Job Corps

Full-time, exempt position within the College’s Extension Education Program at the LBJ Job Corps Center.

About the Role

Serve as the Welding Instructor, guiding students to develop the job and social skills necessary for employment in the welding field. Maintain an up-to-date instructional classroom and lab, recruit and orient new students, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements for both the College and LBJ Job Corps Center.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students in welding through group and individualized programs.
• Advise and guide students in professional and social skills development.
• Maintain records for the College and LBJ Job Corps Center.
• Select and recommend instructional materials, tools, and equipment.
• Serve on College and LBJ committees and attend meetings and student programs as needed.
• Act as a professional role model for students.
• Collaborate with the US Forest Service and Department of Labor to update instructional programs.
• Recommend new programs and skills to enhance student success.
• Maintain professional development and competence.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and others.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including attending required training (e.g., CPR, Student Handbook Training, Gang Awareness Training, Center Safety Procedures).

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate Degree preferred.
• Appropriate welding certifications.
• Minimum of 2 years of welding experience.
• Knowledge of basic to advanced welding practices.
• Ability to be certified and re-certified in CPR as required by the Job Corps Center.

Working Conditions

• Classroom and lab environment, with occasional meetings and conferences.
• Work schedule: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM with a ½ hour lunch break.
• Position does not follow the College’s inclement weather closing schedule; LBJ Job Corps Center remains open.
• Federal holidays observed.

Equipment Operation

Operate all basic to advanced welding tools and machines.
