About the role
Teach assigned classes and laboratory sections and perform activities related to classroom instruction.
Responsibilities
- Teach Welding courses including lecture and lab components as appropriate.
- Maintain office hours convenient for students.
- Participate in college and department training including continuous improvement through mentoring and evaluation activities.
- Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.).
- Assist in course and student outcome assessments, implementation of curriculum and activities related to Welding.
- Provide continuous improvement for program curriculum through completion of program review processes.
- Aid in developing and maintaining educational pathways for high school, as well as adult and continuing education students.
- Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.
- Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.
- Ensure equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate.
- Manage supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.
- Perform minor repairs on machines or other lab equipment when practical and appropriate.
- Work closely with the welding professional associations.
- Interface with the American Welding Society.
- Maintain safety procedures at all times.
- Collaborate with Dean, Marketing and Communications, and Student Services staff on student recruitment, retention, and completion.
- Assist in work-based placement (e.g., internships, apprenticeships, post-graduation opportunities).
- Collaborate with Dean and regional employers to develop and incorporate feedback from an Advisory Committee to ensure that the programs address equity and access, as well as relevancy and innovation.
- Aid Dean with recruitment, screening, recommending, training, and evaluating adjunct faculty and other programmatic needs for CTE courses.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Welding, and / or a combination of education, training, and tested experience in one or more of the following Certifications from (AWS) American Welding Society, American Petroleum Institute, military or equivalent; and 1-3 years related experience required.
- Proficiency in GMAW (MIG) GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), Oxy-fuel Welding & cutting processes in all positions; welding mild steel aluminum stainless steel metals is preferred.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Experience in office and computer, word-processing technology required.
- Experience in dealing with third party regulatory agencies is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising/training others is preferred.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communications skills and ability to use independent judgement and function autonomously is required.
- Demonstrated effective interaction with people from diverse backgrounds is required.
