About the role

BPMI is a prime contractor for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP). BPMI is involved in the design, purchase, quality control, and delivery of major propulsion plant components for installation in nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, submarines, and prototype plants for the U.S. Navy.

Responsibilities

  • Understand project requirements, track progress against schedule and performance goals, and provide regular status updates to management and the design team.
  • Aid in the preparation of welding and process instructions, standards, manuals, and specifications. Offer input to the preparation, follow, and reporting of material development programs.
  • Aid in welding engineer oversight of supplier processing and fabrication procedures.
  • Perform failure analysis on metal components to identify root causes, suggest improvements and develop solutions to prevent future issues.
  • Collaborate with other engineers performing related phases of the technical work to ensure integration of activities and plans.
  • Prepare revisions to technical manuals, reports, or procedures in accordance with NR Program quality standards.
  • Conduct production reviews and quality surveillance; review and approve supplier designs and supporting technical reports on assigned components and equipment; develop and implement methods to improve supplier performance.
  • Assist with in-service inspections and evaluations to ensure high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective equipment.
  • Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions or obtaining approval of funding.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Stay current with advancements in the field of welding techniques and technologies. Expand understanding of component and system interrelationships and deepen understanding of pertinent welding processes.
  • Domestic travel (20-25%) to key Program and supplier sites including shipyard collaboration partners. Infrequent international travel may be required in support of trilateral partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 for newer college graduates.
  • Experience in the application of welding in the design and fabrication of equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook and other commonly used business applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including effective technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with strong attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving capabilities.

Pay

$68,300 - $129,100 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
