Primary Function
This position provides technical leadership for welding and robotic welding operations, ensuring compliance and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, training, productivity, and cost performance.
Responsibilities
- ASME and AWS Code application and interpretations
- ASME Code procedure and personnel performance qualifications
- Diagnose welding equipment for proper functionality
- Provide Technical guidance and assistance to welding operators
- Manage welding training program toward ASME certification for new and existing welding operators.
- Write and develop all PQRs, WPSs, and WPQs for ASME code vessels and maintain records.
- Develop welding procedures in compliance with ISO 9002 standards
- Welding Engineer-Robotic welding experience required
- Develop new or modified current welding, robotic, and assembly methods, techniques, and procedures.
- Discover new patterns of welding and robotic technology.
- Prepares technical reports from research, development, and preventative maintenance investigations.
- Establish weld procedures to guide the production team regarding specifications/processes.
- Evaluate new welding and robotic field developments for possible application to current welding and robotic problems or production processes.
- Coordinate and manage welding technical personnel in performing daily inspections of welding equipment to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards
- Work with training coordinator and operations teams to ensure training is relevant and practical and monitor training program to verify all documentation is up to date
- Performs experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
- Assist in developing and maintaining work instructions in compliance with QMS requirements.
- Responsible for interfacing with internal/external customers
- Authorized to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.
- Ability to troubleshoot shop floor weld, robotic, and assembly issues and quickly identify necessary countermeasures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field, from an accredited university or college. OR a 2-year Technical Degree or Journeyman card with a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience
- 3+ years of supervisory experience
- CWI/CWE certification through the American Welding Society is required.
- Familiar with welding verification methods, testing methodology, and measuring devices.
- Ample experience with Fanuc robotics welding applications (Fanuc preferred) and Laser seam trackers
- Must be able to work with cross-functional department personnel for new equipment development, installation, and troubleshooting.
- GMAW and RSW experience required and AWS member preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
