Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting a Welding Engineer in West Mifflin, PA. An active DOE clearance or DOD equivalent is required to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

• Assess repair technologies both within a laboratory setting and via commercial subcontracts.
• Develop technical skills through complex assignments involving established as well as novel technologies.
• Assist in planning, following, and executing work efforts; conceive and produce technical instructions and procedures.
• Track procurement actions and budget performance; write technical submittals and recommendations.
• Travel to vendors and shipyards to support project planning, equipment testing and repair deployment.
• Team with other engineers to identify, research, test, and evaluate metallic and non-metallic repair technologies.
• Leverage existing welding, machining, and other industrial processes.
• Plan and report project performance within NNL’s broader repair technology development community.
• Help develop, test, evaluate, and qualify repair procedures in the laboratory.
• Consult with various fabrication vendors and shipyards to facilitate technology transfer.
• Support repair operations including gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, epoxies/composites, and mechanical/machining processes.
• Develop and interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards.
• Plan and execute work programs, design experiments, analyze experimental results, and prepare technical reports.

Requirements

• BS Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or
• MS Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience making technical presentations.
• Ability to lead/execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner.
• US citizenship required due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements.

Skills

• Demonstrated acumen in executing laboratory work.
• Familiarity with inspection methods is a plus.
• Excellent individual initiative and creativity.
