Welder Senior

Senior-level position responsible for completing routine welding assignments within clearly defined processes, working under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities

• Uses metal core MIG, TIG, flux-core, sub-arc, or stick welding processes (must pass three or more applicable tests and non-destructive exams).
• Welds brackets, braces, and uses grinders; positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Performs position welds on code materials; ensures quality x-ray and ultrasound test welds with minimal rework.
• Proficient in flame and plasma cutting torches and automated equipment.
• Reads and understands blueprints; fits up pipe, flanges, etc., with minimal supervision.
• Operates basic cutting equipment.
• Promotes and supports safety, production, and a positive attitude.
• Collaborates with the team to develop improved work processes for the department.
• Occasionally uses a computer and other office equipment (e.g., copier, printer, calendar, telephones).
• Operates heavy equipment such as welding tools on a constant frequency and forklifts on an occasional basis.

Requirements

• Knowledge of different types and sizes of pipe, structural, and vessel materials.
• Must pass a 3G test for vessel/tower or 6G test for pipe.
• Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Preferred Education: High School Diploma or Welding School.
• Preferred Certifications: Certification to weld on pipe or plate.

Physical Requirements

• Stands for at least 90% of the time; sits for at least 10% of the time.
• Occasionally inspects equipment, climbs stairs or ladders, and maintains balance without assistance.
• Must communicate and respond to coworkers and emergency cues/alarms in person, on the telephone, and via mobile devices.
• Lifts up to 50 pounds.
• Works in outdoor conditions, including all weather, and in un-airconditioned facilities.
• Works in loud environments.
• Moves and maintains self in various positions (stoop, kneel, crouch) in tight and confined spaces.
• Wears all required PPE, including fire-retardant clothing, helmets, face shields, hearing protection, safety goggles, and steel-toed boots.
• Rarely requires travel or driving.
