About the role

This position is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on PLC-controlled baggage handling, conveyor systems, and related equipment. The role is located at Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL).

Responsibilities

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform welding and fabrication using MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding processes as required.
  • Must possess a current 3G welding certification.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform quality welds in various positions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, welding symbols, and related documentation.
  • Fabricate, modify, repair, and install metal components, brackets, supports, guards, frames, and other structures.
  • Perform cutting, grinding, fitting, and other metal fabrication activities as needed.
  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure proper fit, quality, and functionality.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.

Maintenance Repair Technician

  • Provide troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of PLC-controlled baggage, conveyor systems, and related equipment, components, and systems.
  • Provide concise, accurate, and sufficiently detailed data for input of all maintenance information.
  • Perform mechanic duties including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of conveyor and control systems.
  • Drive and operate equipment such as golf carts, company vehicles, forklifts, etc.
  • Support operations with clearing bag jams.
  • Assist with the development and ensure proper input of maintenance data into the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Respond to maintenance calls when required and/or requested.
  • Comply with company safety program and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have a 3G Welding Certificate or higher.
  • Ability to obtain airport security clearance.
  • Availability to work day or night shift including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1+ years’ experience in maintenance operations.
  • Industrial Electrical Experience, specifically with 3-phase motors and 480v.
  • Mechanic skills including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Familiarity with Airport operations.
  • Intermediate understanding of PLC Control systems.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.

Work Environment

The work environment is similar to airport operations with vehicular traffic. The employee is regularly exposed to:

  • Moving mechanical parts.
  • High, precarious places.
  • Outside weather conditions.
  • Fumes or airborne particles.
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Cold and vibration.
  • Loud noise levels.

Employees will work on an airport ramp around aircraft and heavy equipment.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance and work in small spaces.
  • Ladder work required.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
  • Ability to work in outside weather conditions on an airport ramp and in confined areas of baggage conveyor systems.
  • Specific vision abilities required include good close proximity vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Good hand/eye coordination is required.
