NABRICO Marine Products is a leading U.S. manufacturer of barges that transport dry and liquid cargoes on inland waterways. We produce tank barges for petroleum, chemicals, fertilizer, ethanol, and other liquid cargoes, as well as dry cargo barges—including flat-deck and hopper barges—that carry grain, coal, aggregates, and more. Our welders see their work in action on waterways across the country.
About the role
As a Lead Welder at NABRICO Marine Products, you will lead a team of welders, ensuring appropriate welding processes are applied to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal or other weldable materials according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches. Work involves manual, automatic, and/or semi-automatic welding equipment.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of welders to achieve production goals
- Follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Proficiently perform flat (1F), horizontal (2F), vertical (3F), and overhead (4F) fillet welds
- Proficiently perform flat (1G), horizontal (2G), vertical (3G), and overhead (4G) groove welds
- Inspect your own welds to ensure all quality requirements are met
- Follow all safety rules and practices
- Participate in safety committees or initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 or more years of FCAW weld experience
- Leadership skills
- Ability to read blueprints and understand weld layout and processes
- Satisfactorily pass vertical and overhead fillet welding as well as groove welding tests using manual and semi-automatic welding processes
- Demonstrated ability to carbon arc gouge and use the oxyfuel cutting process
- Ability to inspect own finished welds to meet quality standards
- Ability to perform welding work while wearing all required personal protective equipment, including a filtering face piece and/or tight-fitting respirator
- May require working above ground (15 ft or more) and climbing ladders or stairs; comfort with heights
- May require working in narrow or confined workspaces for extended periods
- May require extensive kneeling, bending, walking, and/or standing for long periods
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
