Responsibilities
- Set up, troubleshoot, and operate welding machines to meet exacting job specifications
- Preheat and weld metal components per blueprints, welding symbols, and job specs
- Perform precision welds on structural and process pipe applications using hand welding equipment
- Use templates, jigs, and blueprints to repair, modify, or fabricate components
- Meet rigorous quality standards, including radiographic, ultrasound, and magnetic particle testing
- Operate hand tools for cutting, drilling, tapping, grinding, and shaping metal
- Run industry equipment such as air arc gougers, grinders, and stress-relieving machines
- Diagnose and correct substandard welds
- Manage metals to hold dimensional, tolerance, and strength requirements while preventing distortion or burn-through
- Work safely, protecting yourself, your team, and Cooper's tools and equipment
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- 5+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong focus on quality
- Comfortable lifting up to 45 lbs. regularly and working in environments with noise and dust
- Consistent use of required safety gear (glasses, safety shoes, earplugs)
- Physically able to perform the demands of welding work
- Willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends as needed
- Solid grasp of basic math
- Experienced operating a forklift, hand truck, and related equipment
- A strong communicator with self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Qualifications
- Current welding certifications (e.g., AWS) covering structural or pipe welding
- Experience welding to ASME or API code requirements
- Background in reciprocating engine or compressor manufacturing
- Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience on a shop floor
