About the role

This position involves welding components in various positions, operating safety equipment, and ensuring workpieces meet specified standards. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and proficiency with welding tools and techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform full penetration butt weld 6G tests.
• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using tools such as straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
• Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift objects (up to 50 lbs) for extended periods.
• Examine workpieces for defects and measure conformance with specifications using straightedges or templates.
• Set up and operate hand and power tools, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
• Weld using stainless steel and other alloys, either separately or in combination.
• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt components to achieve required configurations.
• Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux based on welding chart specifications or metal types and thicknesses.
• Ignite torches or start power supplies, striking arcs by touching electrodes to metals.
• Connect and adjust regulator valves to control gas flow and pressure for desired flames.
• Control machines and processes, handle and move objects, and identify actions or events.
• Operate vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment, and communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates.
• Gather information, perform physical activities, inspect equipment or structures, and think creatively.
• Train and teach others as needed.
• Adjust equipment to regulate gas flow, align parts, and apply protective or decorative finishes.
• Assemble metal or plastic parts, structures, or temporary equipment.
• Clean production equipment, workpieces, or finished products.
• Cut materials in preparation for fabrication, design templates, and determine production methods.
• Disassemble equipment for maintenance, drill holes, and estimate material requirements.
• Fill cracks or imperfections, heat materials, and ignite fuel for heating equipment.
• Lay out parts for assembly, maintain inventories, and mark products or equipment with identifying information.
• Measure dimensions to verify conformance, melt materials, and monitor equipment for flaws.
• Mount materials onto production equipment and notify others of repair needs.
• Operate grinding, forming, or welding equipment, and repair parts or assemblies.
• Reshape metal workpieces, review blueprints, and select production equipment.
• Shape workpieces with hammers or hand tools, signal others to coordinate activities, and smooth surfaces.
• Solder parts, trim excess material, and watch equipment for malfunctions.
• Determine required equipment and welding methods using knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and techniques.
• Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, or distortion.
• Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment for processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, and resistance welding.
• Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and work orders to plan layout and operations.
• Mark or tag materials with job numbers, piece marks, or other identifiers.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED equivalent; some college preferred.
• Minimum 2-5 years of proven experience as a Welder.
• Experience with various welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, blow torch, etc.).
• Proficiency with electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
• Knowledge of safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves, etc.).
• Valid California driver’s license and insured vehicle in good working order.
• AWS welding certification is a plus.

Skills

• Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
• Monitoring gauges, dials, or indicators to ensure proper machine function.
• Conducting tests and inspections to evaluate quality or performance.
• Determining tools and equipment needed for a job.
• Repairing machines or systems using appropriate tools.

Schedule

May require working weekends and holidays as business necessitates, with schedules determined by management and at least 48 hours advance notice.

Work Environment

• Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable sounds and noise levels.
• Working in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures.

Pay

Hourly range: $25.75 to $34.24. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience, skills, training, and qualifications.
