About the role
The Thermite Welder Helper assists the Thermite Welder in repairing railroad tracks within heavy construction environments.
Responsibilities
- Assist with Railtech Boutet, Inc. and Orgo-Thermit, Inc. Thermite Welding Processes.
- Use Oxygen/Propane cutting and preheating processes.
- Perform general railroad track work, including rail cutting, measuring, removal, replacement, switch configuration, track construction, and restoration.
- Handle basic track work duties such as spiking, anchoring, and surfacing.
- Detect faulty equipment operation or defective materials and notify supervisors.
- Operate equipment in compliance with safety policies, rules, and regulations.
- Report daily activities to the Thermite Welder and communicate job completion status.
- Assist the Thermite Welder in problem-solving and cost-effective repair solutions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of Thermite Welding experience in a heavy railroad industrial environment.
- Thorough knowledge of the Thermite Welding process and procedures.
- Certified by Contractor Orientation, ERail Safe, and Railway Maintenance Machine Operation.
- Ability to understand and follow safety policies, rules, and regulations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works outdoors at railroad construction sites in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Frequently works in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Regularly stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches.
- Uses hands to operate equipment and tools.
- Performs heavy physical labor; may lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Exposed to loud noise, dust, and fumes.
- Must wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection.

Pay
$18.20 per hour.
