About the role

The Thermite Welder Helper assists the Thermite Welder in repairing railroad tracks within heavy construction environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Railtech Boutet, Inc. and Orgo-Thermit, Inc. Thermite Welding Processes.
  • Use Oxygen/Propane cutting and preheating processes.
  • Perform general railroad track work, including rail cutting, measuring, removal, replacement, switch configuration, track construction, and restoration.
  • Handle basic track work duties such as spiking, anchoring, and surfacing.
  • Detect faulty equipment operation or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Operate equipment in compliance with safety policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Report daily activities to the Thermite Welder and communicate job completion status.
  • Assist the Thermite Welder in problem-solving and cost-effective repair solutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of Thermite Welding experience in a heavy railroad industrial environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Thermite Welding process and procedures.
  • Certified by Contractor Orientation, ERail Safe, and Railway Maintenance Machine Operation.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety policies, rules, and regulations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Works outdoors at railroad construction sites in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Frequently works in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Regularly stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches.
  • Uses hands to operate equipment and tools.
  • Performs heavy physical labor; may lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Exposed to loud noise, dust, and fumes.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection.

Pay

$18.20 per hour.
