Essential Duties
- Plants and tacks various small components to round or formed shafts to form pole assemblies.
- Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed for assembly.
- Lays out various small part attachments on round tube or formed shaft based on drawings and specifications.
- Measures distances and angles using measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders.
- Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel.
- Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and cutting holes in shafts.
- Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly.
- Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within established welding procedures.
- Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed.
- Finishes weld various products to keep the product moving through the large pole department.
- Reads and interprets weld symbols.
- Preheats parts with oxy-fuel torch before welding.
- Measures and records temperatures using instruments provided.
- Cleans welded areas with chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush.
- Drills and reams various sizes of holes in poles as required by the drawing.
- Loads finished poles into bolsters for transportation using overhead crane.
- Welds other products using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process.
- Instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity.
Position Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication, and decimals.
- Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications.
- Must know how to properly use a weld gauge.
- Must be able to read and write.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift.
- Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over, and occasional climbing of stairs/ladders heights up to 6 or 7 feet.
- Abnormal level of noise due to grinding, chipping, hammering requires hearing protection (ear plugs) be worn at all times.
- Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, and handling of materials.
