Responsibilities

  • Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts.
  • Lays out, positions, and tack welds workpieces.
  • Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal.
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
  • Cleans or degreases parts.
  • MIG welds.
  • Reads AWS blueprints.
  • Performs physical aspects of the job including climbing step ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to work a schedule of four days on, then four days off.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE including a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) weighing approximately 2.5 pounds for extended periods of time (10-12 hours).

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Required to stand, walk, climb, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Frequently required to use fingers, hands, and arms to handle and reach.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move 5-30 lbs.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work four 10-hour days, occasionally working 40+ hours/week as business demands.
  • Ability to wear protective gear due to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Ability to frequently be exposed to flashing lights.
  • Must occasionally be exposed to weather conditions such as precipitation, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Regularly required to wear hearing protection in a loud environment.
