About the role

Tenneco Litchfield is a manufacturing facility in the Clean Air division of Tenneco. We produce full exhaust systems and related components for OEMs (Automotive Plants) and aftermarket parts. Our major customers include General Motors, Ford, Toyota, VW, Nissan, and many aftermarket vehicle replacement parts. The facility has three departments: Canning, Bending, and Final Assembly.

  • Canning: Production zone where catalytic converters and filters are assembled and sealed inside metal outer shells.
  • Bending: Shapes straight metal into complex, curved forms to fit under vehicles, including tail pipes.
  • Final Assembly: Combines bent pipe, stuffed cans, hangers, and flanges to create vehicle-ready exhaust systems.

This role involves applying appropriate welding processes to meet specifications, inspecting and repairing welds, and supporting production and assembly of exhaust pipe components. You will also participate as an active team member in other cell tasks and BOS meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Handle materials and tools, set up welding processes, and inspect welds to ensure specifications are met.
  • Work as a team member in a cellular operating group, rotating to other workstations within the cell.
  • Maintain acceptable quality, quantity, performance, and safety standards.
  • Perform safety checks and preventive maintenance on welding equipment; complete daily forms.
  • Weld and repair parts per specifications.
  • Adhere to plant policies, handbooks, and work instructions for safety, environmental, quality, productivity, and performance standards.
  • Work overtime as required or requested.
  • Obtain supplies and parts; set up welding power supplies and controls.
  • Inspect welds to ensure quality, troubleshoot problems, and make adjustments as needed.
  • Assist other employees in the cell when welding is not required.
  • Maintain cleanliness at the welding station and surrounding work areas.
  • Support 5S advancements and assist in implementing Lean Principles.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience with welding processes such as MIG and TIG.
  • Ability to set up welders, apply appropriate weld processes, inspect welds, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, directions, charts, forms, and safety regulations.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to correctly use and read various gauges.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work well in a team environment.

Work Environment

  • Confined work spaces.
  • Exposure to weld flashes and high noise levels.
  • Varying temperatures (hot to cold).
  • Exposure to welding fumes and smoke.
  • Fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands

  • Extensive sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and torso twisting.
  • Frequent hand and arm motion; manual dexterity.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme hot temperatures.
  • Good visual acuity.

Pay

Starting pay: $25.47 per hour + $0.75 per hour shift premium. Additional pay increases at 6 months and 1 year of employment.
