Welder, 1st Shift - HammerHead

Day shift, 6:00 AM–3:00 PM, Monday–Friday

Pay

Typical starting pay: $18.76/hr. – $25.00/hr.

Responsibilities

• Read information from blueprints, technical manuals, or other documents
• Set up fixtures, mount parts in fixtures, and perform mechanical assembly using hand and air tools (wrenches, torque wrenches, impact wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.)
• Use a hoist to lift and position large, heavier components and completed weldments
• Set up, adjust, and operate MIG welding equipment to weld machine components
• Remove components from fixtures, clean and check them for quality, and correct errors or deficiencies of weldments
• Use a computer to check the location, inventory, routing of parts, and to record inventory transactions

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Appropriate reading, clerical, and basic math skills
• Appropriate mechanical skills, including experience using hand and air-powered tools
• Preferred 2+ years of field experience with MIG and TIG welding
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to be certified to operate a forklift and use other heavy equipment

Qualifications

Welder II

• Typically, 18 to 36 months of directly related experience required
• Certificate from technical school preferred
• Demonstrates the ability to weld production jobs to print, while following standard work with little or no supervision
• Knowledgeable of SAP and able to utilize the system, and assist others, based upon job needs
• Willing to instruct and train others on best practices in production welding

Welder I

• Appropriate MIG and TIG welding experience OR completion of a formal welding training program (or equivalent in training and experience)
• Pass required entry-level plate test for production welding

Work Environment

• Manufacturing plant conditions (indoors, with variable temperature, humidity, noise, and dirt) with outside loading and unloading of trucks
• Rapidly changing demands, schedules, and deadlines
• Majority of the day on your feet
• Use of personal protective equipment including a welding hood, gloves, sleeves, safety glasses, face shields, and hearing protection
• Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic; sharp objects; moving machinery; electrical arc-welding equipment; and materials handling
• Working with hazardous materials, including solvents, oils, grease, and pressurized gases
• Overtime as necessary

Essential Physical Functions

• Handle items weighing over 60 pounds from floor to knuckle
• Pull or push items up to 50 pounds
• Handle items up to 35 pounds from knuckle to shoulder
• Handle items up to 25 pounds from shoulder to overhead
• Frequent walking, twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, and climbing
• Continuous walking
• Occasional sitting and elevated work
