About the role

The Wire Room Attendant plays a critical role at Electric Boat by ensuring the welding of submarines is completed on schedule and with complete accuracy. This position supports the welding departments in supplying critical assets to the US Navy.

Responsibilities

  • Operate personnel and mainframe computer systems.
  • Understand and administer EB policies and procedures regarding weld wire, including proper receiving, storage, handling, conditioning, acceptance of weld wire requisitions, issuance, and discarding of welding consumables.
  • Issue tools, PPE, and other tool crib-related items.
  • Participate in company and customer audits.
  • Work until the end of the normal scheduled shift hours, including various shifts and overtime to support shipyard construction schedules.
  • Schedule, order, track, and prioritize weld consumable materials, interfacing with management, planning, purchasing, QP warehouses, QP inspection, and Groton engineering.
  • Schedule, order, track, and prioritize tool crib materials for EBCORP tool rooms, interfacing with trades and all levels of management.
  • Move heavy pallets of weld wire and stock welding materials in an orderly fashion, as per level 1 procedure, including pallets of crib materials and stock crib materials, contingent with any EBCORP procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED OR 2 or more years of related technical experience.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing and/or production experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a welder or wire room alternate.

Skills

  • Ability to work safely in an environment with heavy and at times heated products.
  • Steadfastness to properly conduct verbal exchanges for weld wire issue identification.
  • Comfortable participating in company and customer audit procedures.
  • High propensity to learn and operate the ATICTS system weld wire computer programming, including report running, creating part numbers, receiving, and entering inventory.
  • Ability to master other related programming such as MRPII for weld wire ordering.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervisor oversight.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with level 1 welding and construction materials as they relate to welding consumable issue.
  • Use of stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, twist, bend, kneel, and stoop.
