Weld Engineer (Sign on Bonus Available for Select Candidates!)

We are looking for a Weld Engineer to join our team in the Pittsburgh area, where you’ll mentor and engage with other engineers to create equipment and products designed to survive the harshest environments on earth without compromising quality or longevity.

About the role

As a Weld Engineer, you will determine appropriate welding techniques and procedures, generate weld procedure and welder qualification records, and resolve complex welding issues. You will work in a manufacturing environment using processes such as GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, and PTAW to produce x-ray quality structural and seal welds. The role involves interpreting material specifications, evaluating and resolving non-routine welding problems, and identifying new or improved welding processes. You will collaborate with design and manufacturing teams, provide technical support, and participate in meetings to assist engineering, manufacturing, and program management. Additionally, you will review supplier qualifications and procedures, support audits, and mentor other engineers to facilitate growth and continual improvement.

Responsibilities

• Determine appropriate welding techniques and procedures for welding applications and qualifications.
• Generate weld procedure and welder qualification records.
• Work effectively in a manufacturing environment using arc welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, PTAW) to produce x-ray quality welds.
• Apply knowledge of welding metallurgy to resolve complex welding issues and interpret material specifications.
• Identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine welding engineering problems related to manufacturing and repair work.
• Develop and manage material joining work plans, schedules, and resource requirements to meet goals and deadlines.
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering teams to resolve joining issues and provide technical support.
• Actively participate in meetings to support engineering, manufacturing, and program management.
• Review supplier qualifications and procedures, and provide support for audits.
• Mentor other engineers in areas of expertise to facilitate growth and continual improvement.
• Identify new and improved welding processes and techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or Materials Science with welding engineering experience. Advanced degrees in these disciplines are desired.
• 6+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with arc welding processes, preferably GTAW, FCAW, or SAW, but knowledge of GMAW, SMAW, or PTAW is also acceptable.
• Experience with welding codes such as ASME Section III, ASME Section IX, NAVSEA, or Tech Pub.
• Experience working with carbon, alloy and stainless steels, nickel, copper-based alloys, and dissimilar metal welding.
• Prior experience as a Welding Engineer, Materials Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer.
• Effective communication and organizational skills for working with engineering and operations teams.
• Must be a U.S. citizen due to DoD requirements and able to obtain and maintain DoD Security clearances and approvals.

Pay

$85,000 - 125,000 per year. The salary range is a general guideline for a position based in Pennsylvania. Criteria such as qualifications, experience, scope of the position, and market considerations will be evaluated when extending an offer.
