Primary Responsibilities
- Provide technically sound and cost-effective welding and materials solutions to support design, manufacturing, and repair operations
- Review new product designs and recommend appropriate materials and joining techniques based on performance requirements (strength, corrosion resistance, conductivity, weight, cost)
- Support qualification and implementation of welding procedures, including advanced and non-traditional techniques
- Collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and production teams to support new manufacturing projects
- Participate in root cause analyses of welding and materials-related failures using testing data, field performance, and process history
- Monitor material and weld performance to identify improvement opportunities or potential degradation
- Troubleshoot welding processes and equipment, partnering with operations to improve efficiency and quality
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME Section III & IX, AWS D1.1/D1.2/D1.6, MIL-STD requirements)
- Prepare technical documentation including weld procedures, qualification records, reports, and budgets
- Support hands-on manufacturing, inspection activities, and non-destructive examination (NDE) methods
- Aid in resolving production and field issues related to welding and materials performance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or Materials Science from an accredited institution
- Minimum 8 years of welding engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex manufacturing and materials challenges cross-functionally
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present technical concepts clearly
- Ability to travel up to 10–20% as needed
- Physically able to support shop-floor operations, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, and working in industrial environments
- Hands-on welding or inspection experience preferred
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification highly desirable
- Familiarity with nuclear codes and standards (ASME Section III & IX, AWS D1.1/D1.2/D1.6) strongly preferred
- Experience with NDE techniques (VT, PT, MT, RT, DR) preferred
- Experience supporting nuclear, energy, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments preferred
