Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Welding Engineer to support production, quality, and process improvement within a large‑scale heavy equipment manufacturing environment. This role blends hands‑on welding expertise with strong engineering fundamentals and plays a key part in developing procedures, supporting welder qualifications, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate enjoys partnering with fabrication teams, solving complex weld issues, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, revise, and maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation in accordance with applicable codes and internal standards.
- Support welder qualification testing, procedure qualification, and weld process validation.
- Provide technical guidance on joint design, filler metals, heat input, and welding techniques to ensure high‑quality, repeatable results.
- Troubleshoot weld defects and collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to implement corrective actions.
- Review engineering drawings and verify weld symbols, joint details, and material specifications for manufacturability.
- Assist with the introduction and optimization of new welding technologies, equipment, and automation.
- Ensure adherence to AWS, ASME, ISO, and other relevant welding codes and standards.
- Support NDT activities and interpret results in partnership with quality personnel.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on weld quality, efficiency, and process stability.
- Contribute to root‑cause analysis and corrective action development for weld‑related nonconformances.
- Work closely with shop‑floor welders, supervisors, and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Provide training and technical support to production teams to strengthen welding capability across the facility.
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on welding standards, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience supporting welding operations in manufacturing, heavy equipment, industrial fabrication, or structural steel environments.
- Strong understanding of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and related welding processes.
- Familiarity with AWS, ASME, ISO, or similar welding codes.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and weld symbols.
- Hands‑on problem‑solving approach with the ability to work closely with shop‑floor personnel.
- Preferred: experience with robotic/automated welding, metallurgy, heat treatment, or NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT).
