Weekend Overnight Counselor
Location: 8 Church Street, Dorchester, MA
About the role
The Overnight Counselor is responsible for the overall safety of the participants in the program at 8 Church Street. The Overnight Counselor will assist participants in performing Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills in the early morning hours and create and maintain a respectful atmosphere that empowers very chronic, mentally ill participants to reach their highest level of functioning. Due to emergency or unforeseen program needs, staff may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another Safe Haven program at any given time.
Schedule
16 hours, Saturday–Sunday, 10:45 p.m. – 7:15 a.m.
Pay
$21.40 – $30 per hour (based on relevant experience and skill set) plus $2.00 shift-differential pay for every hour worked between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

- Create and maintain a respectful, empowering atmosphere for very chronic, mentally ill participants
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a shelter, community residence, or inpatient setting
- Experience maintaining a safe environment for clients in a program setting
- Experience as a human services team member, familiarity with the concepts of rehabilitation and consumer empowerment
- Experience with dually diagnosed individuals and assisting people with ADL skills
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills
Qualifications
- Preferred education/training: Advanced training in human services work; some basic prior human services trainings
- Preferred experience: Previous experience working with a Housing First/Safe Haven model; previous experience with the homeless population; previous training in Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care
