Weekend Kitchen Cook - Part-Time
About the role
The Kitchen Cook reports to the Operations Coordinator and works part-time weekends at Bailey's Community Shelter in Falls Church, Virginia. This position is permanent and part of the non-exempt category.
Responsibilities
- Manages daily meal operations, coordinating the preparation and service of 3 meals a day as well as snacks.
- Prepares nutritious, balanced, and healthy meals for clients accommodating the dietary, religious, medical, and cultural restrictions of clients.
- Oversees meal preparation and service, including greeting guests and fostering a welcoming, respectful environment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and storage areas, ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations, including proper food storage, handling, and preparation practices.
- Develops cost-effective meal plans within budget in collaboration with the Operations Coordinator and Program Director.
- Monitor food inventory levels and order supplies as needed, ensuring efficient stock management and proper rotation of food to minimize waste.
- Uphold FACETS’ values of dignity, respect, and compassion with interacting with residents and guests.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma.
- ServSafe certification is required.
- Previous kitchen or commercial food service experience required.
- Ability to prepare and serve meals for large groups.
- Strong time management and organization skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with diverse and vulnerable populations.
- Must pass criminal background checks.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, good driving record, and personal car insurance.
Qualifications
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and working in a kitchen environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to attend occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including 3 annual organization-wide fundraising events each year.

Pay
Hourly: $18-$21 per hour. FACETS offers a competitive salary commensurate with qualification/experience.
Schedule
Shifts will alternate each week across breakfast/lunch (6:00am - 1:30pm) and lunch/dinner (10:30am - 6:30pm).
