About the role

We are seeking reliable, passionate pet care professionals with prior animal care experience to join our team for weekend pet sitting and dog walking in Cranston, RI. This is a long-term part-time position ideal for individuals who love animals, work well independently, and are committed to providing exceptional care.

Responsibilities

  • Dog walking, exercising, and bathroom breaks
  • Pet sitting for dogs, cats, and other small animals
  • Feeding, administering medications (when applicable), and providing love and attention
  • Cat care, including litter box cleaning
  • Following detailed care instructions from clients and our client management system
  • Leaving notes for clients after each visit to update them on their pets’ well-being
  • Frequent travel between clients' homes in assigned service areas

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Prior professional animal care experience (see examples below)
  • Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance
  • Smartphone with reliable internet access
  • Daily access to email and the internet
  • Comfortable using mobile apps for scheduling, communication, and visit documentation
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and customer service skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors year-round in various weather conditions
  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable

Professional Animal Care Experience

Professional animal care experience includes working with animals in a professional, volunteer, or educational setting. Examples:

  • Professional pet sitting or dog walking
  • Veterinary hospital or clinic
  • Animal shelter or rescue organization
  • Dog daycare or boarding facility
  • Pet grooming salon
  • Pet/dog training
  • Veterinary technician or assistant
  • Animal care technician
  • Veterinary, animal science, or related internship/externship
  • Horse barns, equine facilities, or farm animal care
  • Wildlife rehabilitation or care
  • Zoo/aquarium experience (considered on a case-by-case basis)

Schedule

  • Consistent weekend availability (Saturdays and Sundays) for a minimum of 4–6 hours per day during service hours (7 AM–9 PM)
  • Hours do not need to be consecutive and may include mornings, afternoons, or evenings
  • Bookings based on client demand; no requirement to work the entire day every weekend
  • 10–20 hours per week (new team members typically start with fewer hours and build their schedule over time)
  • Additional weekday availability is a plus and may provide more hours
  • Team members may set a maximum number of hours they wish to work per day/week

Pay

  • Paid per visit (rate based on visit length and experience)
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • 100% of tips retained by the pet care professional
  • Paid trainings and meetings
  • Paid certifications and continuing education
  • Reimbursement for Pet First Aid certificate course if not already completed
  • Additional pay for advanced certifications (e.g., +$1 per visit equivalent for Certified Vet Techs, Certified Dog Trainers, and Fear Free Certified Professionals)

Per-Visit Compensation Structure:

  • 15-minute visits: starting at $9.00
  • 20-minute visits: starting at $10.00
  • 30-minute visits: starting at $10.50
  • 45-minute visits: starting at $12.00–$13.50
  • 60-minute visits: starting at $16.00–$18.00

Established pet care professionals have averaged approximately $18–$20+/hour in total compensation, depending on availability, service area, visit length, gratuities, and other factors.
