Weekend Child Life Assistant
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Education Liaison/Child Life Specialist, this position provides therapeutic/diversion activities for individuals and groups of pediatric patients (infants through adolescents) and their families. Provides comprehensive care based on the principles of growth and development across the lifespan of patients served. The position demonstrates the professional skills and behaviors to promote comprehensive, cost-effective, and meaningful healthcare for consumers in a diverse healthcare environment.
Shift
Day Shift — Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, 12-hour shifts.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required in child development, social services or elementary education
Experience: Must have a minimum of one (1) year of Child Life experience as a child life assistant in a hospital setting
Two to three years of work experience directly with children in a learning environment
Certification/Licensure: A BLS card is obtained through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire. CPI training required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must possess the ability to work with culturally diverse patients and families
Must possess good verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills, including knowledge of basic grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English
Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to meet designated deadlines are required
Must have basic computer knowledge
Job-Specific Responsibilities
Provide age-appropriate play, therapeutic, and diversion activities for pediatric patients
Aid the Child Life Specialist with daily programming, group activities, and bedside support
Help create a safe, clean, and engaging environment for patients and families
Support patients’ emotional needs through play and positive interaction
Observe and report patient behaviors and needs to the care team
Maintain and sanitize toys, supplies, and activity areas
Document patient interactions as required
Collaborate with staff to support overall patient care
Follow hospital policies, safety guidelines, and confidentiality standards
Perform other related duties as assigned

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for CMC Phoenix roles, including but not limited to shift differential and other special pay practices. The posted compensation for the position is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay that CMC Phoenix in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.
