Webmaster

About the Role

The NYPD's Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information is seeking a Webmaster to support the development, maintenance, and optimization of websites within a City government, law enforcement environment. This role involves managing web content, ensuring site functionality and accessibility, implementing updates, and supporting compliance with State and City web standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support web content with Blogs, RSS/News feeds, audio and video, and social networking services and their associated APIs.
• Coordinate with various Bureaus and commands to provide solutions, drafting the final version for publication.
• Provide input and feedback to content owners and management support on design, aesthetics, and implementation of enriching features and technologies within a government, law enforcement environment.
• Perform reviews and audit actions for websites and online content for relevant and timely information, compliance with regulations and policy.
• Perform maintenance, administration, and enhancement of websites and web-based services.
• Design and implement links that comply with policies and regulations.
• Identify changes necessary to upgrade websites and services.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or

An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in web development and webmaster support, including graphical design, site planning, and layout of web applications, websites, and web-related services using HTML, DHTML, VB Script, JavaScript, and Cascading Style Sheets.
• Experience designing, developing, and supporting web content with Blogs, RSS/News feeds, audio and video, and social networking services and their associated APIs.
• Experience creating SharePoint pages and content utilizing basic web parts, administering permissions and groups, updating information, creating workflows, and basic maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of performing reviews and audit actions for websites and online content for relevant and timely information, compliance with regulations and policy.
• Solid oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and assess existing and emerging technologies to determine relevance to existing web environments.
