About the Role

Operates a crawler or rubber-tired machine mounted with an excavator bucket. Responsibilities include excavating ditches, structures, and mass excavations; laying pipe and precast concrete structures; loading trucks; and placing rock riprap. The machine may also be equipped with various hydraulic attachments.

Responsibilities

  • Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate machines.
  • Signal truck drivers to position trucks for loading dirt, rocks, and other materials.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards such as utility lines, other equipment, workers, and falling objects.
  • Maintain and service the machine, including oiling and greasing as needed.
  • Make necessary adjustments to equipment.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report unsafe activities to supervisors and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership through example and knowledge-sharing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Less than a high school diploma and related construction experience.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoors, exposed to changing weather conditions (e.g., rain, sun, snow, wind).
  • Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day-to-day tasks of a primarily productive/technical nature.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
