About the role
The consultant will support digital communication and content development for Phase I of UNICEF’s “Child Rights, Safety and Inclusion in the Digital Environment” agenda, as well as rapid-response emergency and evergreen content priorities on unicef.org.
Responsibilities
- Develop a defined package of digital editorial products supporting Phase I of UNICEF’s “Child Rights, Safety and Inclusion in the Digital Environment” advocacy and communication agenda and a package of emergency and evergreen content initiatives.
- Research, write, edit, structure and optimize publication-ready web content in collaboration with DGCA focal points, programme and research specialists, advocacy and communication colleagues.
- Ensure all content is produced in accordance with UNICEF editorial standards and digital best-practices.
- Deploy SEO, GEO and AEO tactics effectively within an international, multi-site web environment.
- Interpret audience analytics and develop actionable content recommendations.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Digital Communications, International Relations, Development Studies, Public Affairs, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible professional experience in digital and editorial communications, content strategy, journalism, or a related field.
- Experience supporting communication products during humanitarian emergencies and/or working in fast-paced news or crisis communication environments is an asset.
- Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills in English is essential.
- Strong understanding of UNICEF’s digital editorial standards, audience engagement and content strategy.
- Ability to work collaboratively with subject-matter experts and translate technical information into content for public audiences.

- Familiarity with emerging discoverability practices, including Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO).
- Experience using analytics and search-performance insights to inform content development and optimization.
- Experience using web analytics and performance measurement tools, including Google Analytics (GA4).
Qualifications
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
- Knowledge of child rights, international development, digital governance, online safety and related policy and advocacy issues.
