Weapons Quality Engineer
About the role
Provide oversight and ensure implementation of the defined quality assurance requirements for Y-12 weapons programs and work for others programs.
Develop and maintain consistency in the application of CNS quality requirements and ensure requirements and performance efforts are in accordance with NAP-401.1A criterion.
- Activities include involvement and awareness of weapons programs and processes including participation on Product Realization Teams and support of Engineering Evaluations.
- Individual may be directly involved in providing input on procedures, or procurement, project, and maintenance processes.
- Will also provide assistance with the resolution of product non-conformances, and with quality control functions in production and quality operations processes.
- Oversight includes working directly with plant operating organizations, as well as weapons program personnel, to assist in defining and understanding applicable quality requirements and to ensure consistent and complete organizational flow down of the requirements into implementing procedures and programs.
- Individual will provide technical assistance for the development of prevention and mitigation measures to eliminate or mitigate risks and potential consequences.
- Oversight also includes leading, or performing assessments and surveillances on Weapons and Work For Others programs across the Y-12 Site, and necessitates the responsibility for having a strong field presence in assigned areas.
- Individual will be responsible for being the Subject Matter Expert on certain elements of the Quality Assurance Program Description providing guidance and clarification on requirements to personnel across the site.
- May be asked to represent Y12 on complex wide quality initiatives.

Requirements
Bachelor's in engineering, computer science, physical science or other technical area OR Master's degree in engineering, computer science, physical science or other technical area.
In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Qualifications
Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access is required.
Demonstrated skill in developing, and cultivating worker interface with multiple organizations and is capable of working independently, without direct supervision, but is effective at working with others in a team environment.
Candidate should have effective critical thinking skills with the confidence to make sound decisions.
Candidate should have high standards, excellent observation skills, superior written and oral communication skills, and superior interpersonal skills to work with the Design Agency, YFO, Product Engineering and Production personnel to resolve and mitigate Weapons Quality issues.
Familiarity and experience with nuclear facilities quality assurance regulations and standards, including DOE Order 414.1E, 10 CFR 830, and NAP-401.1A, or their equivalent preferred.
Familiarity with Weapons Program procedures and processes is also preferred.
Skills
