About the role

Our team is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for on-call Nursing Assistants at the historic Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Aid residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene care, toileting, eating, and assisting with the monitoring/feeding of meals and nourishments.
  • Support residents with range of motion exercises, practice infection control techniques, and report changes in resident condition to licensed personnel.
  • Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data.
  • Document intake and output records.
  • Perform basic nursing procedures such as applying anti-embolism stockings, applying creams or lotion to intact skin, etc.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and harmonious environment.
  • Clean bedpans, washbasins, urinals, commodes, beds, night stands, and over bed tables.

Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis.
  • Valid Washington state license to practice as a nursing assistant certified.
  • Proficient in the English language and able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Active status on Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) Registry.
  • Ability to: Perform data entry, maintain confidentiality, provide a positive living environment for residents, follow written and verbal directions, document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior, demonstrate proficiency in the English language, and be able to read, write, and speak English.

Special Requirements

  • Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks.
  • Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies.
  • Must remain current on the OBRA Registry.
  • Maintain a valid NAC license with the Washington State Dept. of Health.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
  • Comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
