About the role
The Wayne County Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent will provide educational programming in the Agriculture and Natural Resources area, focusing on production agriculture, horticulture, and natural resources. Wayne County has a rich history of an extraordinary Ag Row Crop and Forestry program. County stakeholders rely heavily on the County Agent, who provides training and programming to the community. Tended acres include cotton, peanuts, tobacco, corn, turf, pine trees, and pasture.
Responsibilities
- Provides educational programming related to Agriculture & Natural Resources in the County. Manages the Agricultural & Natural Resources program by offering educational opportunities to diverse audiences using various teaching methods.
- Works with advisory groups, community leaders, public officials, and intended audiences to analyze data, identify needs, and develop educational programs.
- Develops a work plan that addresses the varied socio-economic needs of the county's population.
- Reports ANR activities through UGA software programming.
- Demonstrates personal interest and involvement in the community by participating in and supporting civic/community activities and organizations, and networking with community leaders.
- Safeguards the Civil Rights/Equal Opportunity plan of UGA Cooperative Extension, ensuring compliance and educating volunteers and clientele on the mission of Cooperative Extension.
- Develops and conducts interdisciplinary programs with other staff members based on critical issues.
- Collaborates with other agencies and community groups to plan and implement programs.
- Conducts promotional efforts to broaden the public's understanding of extension programming.
- Utilizes current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Human/Youth Development, Sociology, Education, Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Recreation, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable for a Public Service Provisional appointment.
Qualifications
- Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to speak to and teach large groups of residents.
- Ability to organize and carry out activities and programming for youth.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county, district, and state staff, local government employees, and clientele.
- High standards of professionalism in personal contacts, appearance, and work habits.
- Ability to express thoughts clearly and concisely through written and verbal communication.
