Waterproofing and Expansion Joints Installer

Key Responsibilities

  • Install waterproofing systems such as membranes (bituminous, liquid-applied, or sheet), sealants, coatings, and drainage systems.
  • Install expansion joint systems on floors, walls, roofs, and parking structures using appropriate materials (rubber, metal, pre-compressed foam, etc.).
  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning, priming, and ensuring proper substrate conditions before installation.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturer installation instructions.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance on installed systems as needed.
  • Work in coordination with other construction trades and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; trade certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with various waterproofing products and joint systems (e.g., Sika, Tremco, Emseal, etc.).
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and equipment (50 lbs or more).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification is an asset.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing to access work areas, often in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
  • The role requires the ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment, typically up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Work long hours in varying weather conditions.
  • Necessary for handling tools and applying waterproofing and joint systems with precision.
  • Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential due to potential exposure to chemicals, dust, and construction noise.
